When was Accra Brewery Limited established?
Overseas Breweries Ltd., a Swiss-registered company, built the brewery at Adabraka, in what is now known as Accra’s South Industrial Area, in 1931.
The Nathan Institute in Zurich, Switzerland, was tasked with overseeing all building activities, plant and machinery installation, and brewing technology.

Turner & Schilling, a local firm, was awarded the construction contract, and with the help of over 500 workers, they built all of the buildings in time for the official opening.
The Brewery was inaugurated by the Governor of the Gold Coast, Sir Shenton Thomas, making it Ghana’s first non-traditional industrial company and the first brewery in West Africa.
