Two things that allow birds to fly are:
- Their wings
- The air
Thrust is the other component of creating lift and the ability to fly in both birds and planes. Thus, two factors are required for bird and plane flight: the shape of the wing and the capacity to move it through the air.
What two things allow birds to fly?
You may have been surprised by the results if you attempted the paper activity outlined at the beginning of this piece. In most cases, a person would assume that blowing air across the top would cause the paper to fall rather than rise.
Find Out Also: Birds are able to fly because?
While this is not how you might imagine birds and planes lifting off the ground and flying, it is how they do it. The air pressure above the sheet of paper was decreased by blowing faster air.
Fast-flowing air exerts less downward pressure (red arrows) than slow-moving air exerts upward pressure (green arrows).
Now that the air pressure beneath the paper has been increased, lift occurs. When all requirements are met, the lift does exactly what its name implies: it lifts objects off the ground.
How Do You Accelerate the Air’s Movement?
By blowing air over the top of the piece of paper, we established a lower pressure. With birds and planes, this is not possible.
Rather than that, both birds and planes’ wings are shaped in such a way that air passing over the top must travel a greater distance and so accelerate. As a result, a pressure differential exists between the area just above and below the wing
How Do You Circulate Air Around a Wing?
To move the air over and beneath the wing, the wing must also be moving. This is known as “thrust.” Birds generate thrust as they flap their wings with their powerful breast muscles. Planes operate on a distinct principle of propulsion. They rely on engines.
Propeller-driven or jet-powered engines are also possible. Thrust is the other component that contributes to lifting and the ability of birds and planes to fly. Thus, bird and plane flight require two factors: the shape of the wing and the ability to move it through the air.
