Contingency Fund
A contingency fund is a fund established to account for the urgent or unforeseen needs for which no other provision exists to meet the need.
The unforeseen circumstances may include social disorder, natural disaster, and other similar events.
Advances made from the fund should be replaced as soon as possible by presenting a supplementary estimate to parliament to that effect.
The contingency fund is resourced from the money voted by parliament for that
purpose.
For withdrawals to be made from this fund, the President must request the public finance committee of parliament.
On the other hand, the contingency fund is a fund into which funds have been voted (set aside) by Parliament to pay for unexpected events (which no other provision exists) for which the nation must respond to restore normalcy.
For instance, Ghana had to respond to the May 9 Stadium Disaster and the June 3 Accra (Circle) Flooding and Fire disaster.
These monies would normally come from the contingency fund. Even though payments from the contingency fund requires only the approval of the finance committee of parliament, the fund needs to be reimbursed from the consolidated fund for monies spent from the contingency fund and such reimbursements need parliamentary approval
No money shall be withdrawn from any public fund, other than the consolidated fund and the contingency fund unless the issue of those money has been authorized by or under the authority of an Act of Parliament

Some subjects really form the core of your curriculum.
If you’re just starting to plan your home school journey, your first step should be to plan out your core subjects.
A core subject is a necessity: something your child has to learn in order to be educated. The good news is that the core subjects are relatively straightforward. There are really only four:
Mathematics
Language Arts
History
Science
Of course, it’s not quite that simple, since Language Arts has four different components:
Reading (phonics for younger children, literature for those already reading well)
We strongly suggest that you think of “language arts” as four different subjects, rather than investing in a complete “language arts” curriculum. Grammar and spelling are skill-based subjects, meaning that your student should master them in a planned, sequential manner, using workbooks and exercises; literature is an exploration-based subject, meaning that you can pick and choose what you want the student to read (but she’ll never read all of it!); writing combines aspects of both skill and exploration. Most combined language arts curricula either do skill or exploration well—but not both. (Also, complete language arts programs for young students who are still studying phonics almost always require far too much handwriting and fine motor work by linking reading skills to writing skills.)
So as you construct your first year of home education, begin by settling on texts for each of the following:
Literature (rather than selecting a “text” for this, we strongly suggest that you simply use a reading list and have the student read through a selected number of wonderful books)

The list of Courses in SHS/Technical and Vocational Institutes in Ghana has seen little or no change since the inception of the education reform a couple of years now. The reform that caused the duration of Senior High Schools being lengthened from three (3) years to four (4) years in the 2007/2008 academic year have little impact on the core curriculum and the specialized subjects being pursued under the different courses.
While the four-year duration of senior high school education has been uprightly abolished by the then Prof. Atta Mills administration in 2010, most SHS used academic strategies to introduce all the various subjects to students in the first year. Then offer courses and program selection guidance for students to choose their preferred courses in the second year.
At the SHS level, students will be expected to learn mandatory core subjects. These subjects are Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, and Social Studies.
Also, each student is required to offer four (4) elective subjects. The list of elective subjects depends entirely on the course chosen by the student.
For instance, a student who is pursuing Home Science (formerly Home Economics) may not be required to read Physics.
Below is the list of courses offered at the SHS, Technical and Vocational Institutes and the possible elective subjects that can be chosen by students.

Of course, it’s not quite that simple, since Language Arts has four different components:
For all students:
For students in grades K-2 only, add in:
For students in grades 3 and up only:
For guidance in recording these subjects on a transcript for students in grades 9-12, see “How to Assign High School Credits.”

Here are the major courses in SHS in Ghana:
